A few good ones

decembersound

The December Sound

Playing records at Rundgång @ Babel in Malmö tomorrow with Dennis Lood. (Mono Stereo play live, check them out too!). Thought we’d bust out some new(ish) stuff besides the obvious shoegazing oldies and 60’s racket. Since most of you won’t be there, I’ll let you in on a few of the newer things I’ll play. You might have heard them all before, but since I do love stating the obvious…

Woven Bones. Thrashed-out garage with a lot of smoke and strobe as company. Think Misfits playing the first Jesus and Mary Chain after stealing Velvet Undergrounds’ dope. A lot of goodness here even though they’ve only released three 7” yet. Hope to hear a lot more from these Austin dudes.

Crocodiles. If you take away the nihilistic punk feel and keep the feedback drenched 50’s feel of the same equation i presented above and toss in some Suicide minimalism and noise you get Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowlands’  (The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower/Some Girls) new band. Primal and sweet (yet sometimes they manage to annoy me with some ’03 NYC indie dance-vibe). Their new album is called Summer of Hate.

The December Sound. Might be yesterdays news for you since they’ve been around for a few years, but I like it a lot, and I think they deserve some more attention. If you mix Warlocks with A Place to Bury Strangers you’ll get this. Nice feedback and fuzz-drenched space rock. More Spacemen 3 and shoegaze than Hawkwind though. Said to have a new record out soon.
